The first recorded version and still the best version, from their 1966 album, "Midnight Ride." You can here the roots of punk right here. It's no wonder that it was covered by everyone from the Sex Pistols and Minor Threat, to Johnny Thunders, The Merton Parkas, State Of Alert/S.O.A.(Henry Rollins first band), Les Thugs(French Punk band), Vicious White Kids(Sid Vicious, Glen Matlock, Rat Scabies, Steve New), The Trashmen(early/mid 60s US garage punk band)and many more. Of course it was The Monkees who had a hit with it, and there version was good enough. But this version will always be the best.
