!!!HOW TO MAKE GLUE FROM MILK!!! (Epoxy Adhesives And Wood Adhesives Explantion) SCIENCE EXPERIMENT

Crazy Chris is sticking around and shows you how to make home made glue from milk and then test to see how much wieght the glue can acctually hold!

Objective: To understand how epoxy adhesives and wood adhesives work on a moleculular level to bond objects together.

Materials Needed:
- Cooking Pot
- Skim Milk
- Vinegar
- Spoon
- Strainer
- Container
- Baking Soda
- Water

Step 1) Heat up 450mls of SKIM milk, it has to be "SKIM MILK" untill it feels warm to the touch. Then add 6 tbsps of vinegar to the milk and stir.

Step 2) Strain the curds of milk from the liquid and squeeze as much liquid out of the curds as you can.

Step 3) Add the curds of milk to a container and add 1 tblsp of baking soda. Stir this up for about 1-2mins or untill you get a paste like consistancy.

Step 4) Put some of your homemade glue from milk on some plywood and let it set over night for about 10 hours.

Step 5) Test to see how much weight your glue will hold by clamping one end of the board down with some weight and add books to the other end untill the other peice of wood breaks away.

HOW IT WORKS:
Adhesives or glues are substances used to bond two objects together at a molecular leve and can be either natural or synthetic. The glue you made is known as a casein glue, in this case a glue that used the protiens in milk as a bonding agent. This glue uses a liquid to help the protien flow into microscopic pits on the surface of our object. By hammering the two objects together and putting weight on top of the objects, you push the protien molecules close the wood molecules. If you get molecules close enough to each other you disrupt their electron clouds and cause them to attract each other. The liquid evaporates leaving behind the solid protiens which harden to hold the objects together. Not all glues work by using a liquid or semi-liquid that evaporate or cools down, some glues use a chemical reaction to create a bond between two objects. Like epoxy glue use a chemical reaction to turn small moleculular chains into long thick rope like chains which help to form a bond.
