The Volvo Adventure Award is an international event, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which brings together groups of young people from around the world to showcase their groundbreaking environmental projects. 2011 sees the event celebrating its 10th anniversary, with groups from as far afield as China, Madagascar, the US, Hungary, the UK, India and Malaysia joining together in Gothenburg, Sweden to compete for a $10,000 prize and, more importantly, the honour of being crowned Volvo Adventure winners. The projects include creating biofuel out of cooking oil, recycling chopsticks, turning a city dump into a forest and encouraging young people to grow their own produce. Each of the projects has to prove its sustainability before it can be considered as a potential finalist and many of the projects which have featured over the past 10 years are still going strong. Here, we see an introduction to the project and hear from two of the judges - UNESCO's Bernard Combes and former finalist Chris McLean - as well as a selection of the groups taking part.
