Dian Fossey (January 16, 1932, San Francisco, California - December 26, 1985, Virunga, Rwanda mountains) is a specialized American ethologist in the study of the behaviour of gorillas. She studied them regularly in the mountain forests of Rwanda, encouraged at the time by the famous anthropologist Louis Leakey. This commitment will cost him life. She is murdered in 1985. His killer is still unknown to this day. Recognized as one of the largest primatologists in his lifetime with Jane Goodall, and Biruté Galdikas, it was part of the "Leakey's Angels" (Angels of Leaky), a group of three eminent researchers on primates (Fossey in gorillas); (Goodall on chimpanzees and Galdikas on orangutans) that were sent by archaeologist Louis Leakey to study great apes in their natural environment. Dian Fossey is found murdered in the House of his hut in the Virunga mountains, Rwanda, on December 27, 1985. His skull was split in two by a machete as she had placed in it as an object of decoration. Traces of struggle were visible in the hut.
