NASHVILLE, Tenn.--After a Mount Juliet pastor's wife prayed for a new Friendship Community Church building, she says "God told me to 'Go feed the strippers." Erin Steven's started Nashville Strip Church Ministry two years ago, and it's rapidly changing and growing.
Last September, one exotic dancer kept her identity concealed. She did tell Fox 17 how Stevens' helped her quit her job, by going to a local strip club to get to know the dancers and give them gifts and food.
Stevens says, "When they get gifts in that environment, there's usually a string attached to it. I just go wanting to show the girls love with no strings attached."
Today, that former exotic dancer is showing her face and revealing her name: Katie Holland.
Holland says, "Instead of feeling more ashamed about my past, I guess I am feeling more bright about my future."
The 24-year-old says her future is committed to Jesus, her two daughters, and a law enforcement career. Holland graduated with a criminal justice associate's degree last month. She credits Erin.
Holland says, "She was there when I graduated , she's been helping me with bills, she's been my support system."
Holland and two other dancers quit their jobs because of Stevens' ministry and are now on the Strip Church team and national organization. Stevens says her three sons help her pack the food and gift bags for the dancers. Even more support comes from the Association of Club Executives. The ACE executive director, Angelina Spencer, sent a statement to Fox 17:
