From the last recording session (1948) of my favorite classical singer, Lotte Lehmann. Appropriately, Schubert's An Die Musik (To Music). She continued to concertize until 1951. During the intermission at a 1951 Town Hall concert, she said like when the Marschallin looked into the mirror and said it is time, it was time for her to retire. There were great protests from the audience since she was still in fine voice (except for some breathiness). She said she was glad that they protested but this was better than waiting too long and having audiences wonder when will this woman shut up.
