The public school system decided that children living in east San Jose, California will not to be provided after-school team sports. The public school superintendent explains why. Transcript:
"Why is this happening? The after sports are not part of the student's required daily educational experience. They are an extra as you will. We are currently at an impasse with the teachers and the teachers came to their middle schools principals on August 21st and they said "we are not going to do the coaching of the after-school sports. And, we are not going to do this because we are at an a impasse with the district. We don't have agreement with the district. We don't have a contract. We don't feel this something we want to support." So, we as a district are not able to require them to do it. It is an extra. It is something they would need a stipend for. That's the story."
