Watch and learn about the lifespan of color trends, four current color families, how colors react to one another and the subliminal impact of certain color shades.

"When we look at a trend in home decor, it lasts three to five years, typically. In fashion, you're looking at 18 months," explains Dee Schlotter, brand manager of color, PPG Pittsburgh Paints, during a recent Voice of Color event held at the Warwick, Rhode Island showroom for Infinity Replacement Windows from Marvin by Humphrey's.

"With the Voice of Color at Pittsburgh Paints, we provide a meaning behind every palette that we pick - so there is a reason why we pick these colors," said Ms. Schlotter before reviewing the four color families within Pittsburgh Paints' 2008/09 Eco Echo Color Trends. This line includes the Fair Trade, Vintage, EcoLoco and EcoTechno color groups.

Each borderless color chip contains paint deposits to ensure color accuracy and features five colors. The multiple colors serve as a tool to help users better envision how a specific paint color will impact a space.

Ms. Schlotter explained the design behind each chip, "Because whenever choosing your paint colors, it's never about one color. It's figuring out how the colors all work in a space," she said.
