In expressing traditional cultural beliefs ethnic groups are free to come together without fear of retribution or reprisal. They display those beliefs through traditional costume and ceremony.
These images is from just such an annual event, Dia de los Muertos. It has evolved from an indigenous ritual practiced for over 3000 years to its present form reflecting Christian influences when the Spaniards moved it to coincide with All Saints' and All Souls' Day.
