This is the first half of a 19-minute documentary I made about the Gay Pride Parade which took place in the middle of downtown Seattle, and in the Seattle Center, on June 28, 2009.

The Parade is a yearly celebration of the birth of the modern gay and lesbian liberation movement. It also marks progress in attaining civil rights, and the gaining of equal treatment for all citizens.

All financial and social segments of society, all religions, races, and genders are represented by marchers as well as by the some 100,000 people attending.

This cross-section of humanity is so diverse that it is almost incomprehensible. The closest we get to understand this mixture is through the symbolic use of all the colors in the rainbow; the rainbow flags.

In "Rainbow Flags," the following marchers were asked: "Why are you in the parade?"
- Charlene Strong (Marriage & same-sex equality advocate)
- Anne Melle (Equality activist since 1977)
- George Bakan (Seattle Gay News publisher)
- Greg Nickels (Mayor of Seattle)
- Sally J. Clark (Seattle City Council member)
- Jamie Pedersen (State Representative)
- Eric Pedersen (Jamie's partner)
- Ed Murray (State Senator)
- J.Steve Mayo (Naked Bikeriders)
- Ken Schulman (Lambert House Director)
