Modern day science may well steal the show at the opening of the World Cup in Brazil. A new type of robot will be revealed to the public before the first game.
Just before Brazil and Croatia take the field in the first game of the world's biggest international football competition, scientists will show off a mind-controlled robotic exoskeleton. This makes it possible for paralyzed people to walk again. If the vision becomes a reality, a paraplegic patient will use the robotic legs to both walk and perform the ceremonial kick-off in front of the World Cup crowd. Patients in training are using virtual reality goggles and a digital avatar to practice with the exoskeleton in a controlled environment.
