The National Weather Service in Buffalo confirmed that, at about 6:48 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, a tornado touched down near the intersection of Eagle Factory and Gardner roads, west of the village of Lowville. The agency reported the northeast path of the tornado was about 10 miles long with a width of up to 300 yards, although it wasn't on the ground the whole time. It damaged 12 buildings, and the last signs of impact were in the town of Croghan. The tornado was classified as an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita scale, reaching maximum wind speeds between 95 and 100 mph.
