This film is part of a collection of motion picture films that John Van Antwerp MacMurray shot during the time he served as American Minister to China (1925-1929).

Filmed in Chefoo (Yantai) and Penglai, where the MacMurray family spent summer vacation in 1926, the film includes ships at Chefoo harbor, the summer headquarters of the US Asiatic Fleet (with target practice on board of USS Pruitt) and footage of Penglai, a small medieval town with a walled harbor and temple. In addition, the film includes footage of military airplanes at Camp MacMurray, a US Marine Corps airfield at Hsin Ho near Shanghai (named after MacMurray). It is followed by a film of an inspection and parade in Tientsin, with footage of early tanks and other military vehicles.

This film is discussed in "The Reel Mudd," the audiovisual blog of the Seeley G. Mudd Manuscript Library, which holds the John Van Antwerp MacMurray Papers. For more information or to comment on the film see http://blogs.princeton.edu/reelmudd/2... .
