This video is of a then 19.5 year old Snow leopard at Micke Grove Zoo in Lodi, California, hunting a wild squirrel roaming in its exhibit. The video was filmed by a visitor with his son at the zoo in 2011 and was submitted to zoo staff. The video displays the Snow leopard's natural predator behavior and the squirrel is what zoo professionals call an "enrichment," an object or activity that stimulates an animal's mind and encourages natural behavior. Because of the excellent care he received, the Snow leopard lived to be over 20 years old - twice a Snow leopard's life expectancy. Snow leopards are an endangered species, and captive breeding at facilities like Micke Grove Zoo is helping to prevent this species from going extinct.
