On April 9th, 2014, history was made in Division 1 NCAA basketball. On that day, Derrick Gordon became the first openly gay D1 Men's Basketball player, making global news within minutes.

Derrick is a starter on the UMass Basketball team and was a crucial part of the team's NCAA Tournament run this season. His courageous decision has already #ChangedTheWorld of many and will undoubtedly continue to do so.

The UMass Amherst community is extremely proud of Derrick Gordon and hope you enjoy his TEDxUMassAmherst talk: Be True.
