The Western Burrowing Owl population of Santa Clara Valley is declining rapidly. In an effort to increase the burrowing owl population, Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society and The City of Mountain View staff at Shoreline Park, are restoring Western Burrowing Owl habitat as a part of the Shoreline Park Burrowing Owl Preservation Plan. The project was partially funded by a Together Green grant and carried out by San Jose State University students and community volunteers. SCVAS hopes that more cities will follow Mountain View's lead in preserving habitat for the Burrowing Owls, which will also improve habitat for all wildlife in the valley. Visit www.scvas.org to learn more about supporting the owls and your local Audubon Society.
