'Girlfriend' was the first ever TAC ad produced. The story of a young drunk driver who seriously injures his girlfriend, is confronted at the hospital by her angry parents, setting the realistic, documentary style that has been the hallmark of TAC communications ever since.

Nurse Karen Warnecke uttered the immortal words 'If you drink, then drive, you're a bloody idiot' for the first time in a corridor at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Launched: Dec 10th 1989.

Victorian Road Toll that year: 776
