RR7306A RHODESIA: SMITH VS THE GUERRILLAS
Cuts available: z033631
For the past six months African guerrillas, operating from bases in Zambia and Mozambique have been carrying out hit and run raids on isolated white farms in Rhodesia's border area. In January 1973 Rhodesia closed the border and mounted a trading blockade to force Zambia'a President Kaunda to deal with the guerrillas. Kaunda retaliated by closing his side of the border, stopping copper shipments on Rhodesian Railways, and accusing Rhodesia of aggression in the United Nations. This report shows the aftermath of the guerrilla attacks, talks to the victims and analyses the political and economic issues.
