Mayor Reads March episode is related to Women’s Day.
These videos are one of the ways that Edmonton’s Mayor Don Iveson connects to community. As a father of 2 young children and a champion for literacy as well as our public library - he understands the value of sharing books. He has countless invitations to read to school groups but can't possibly accept them all. In an effort to “share our Mayor” and connect to children (and adults) through books we have created a project called Mayor Reads. We are so pleased to have the support of EPL for this project as they are happily “sharing” with the promotion of these videos. Monthly episodes are based on books which may be related to seasonal themes or city issues that would appeal to our intended audience of elementary students and families.

The Most Magnificent Thing was chosen as it connects not only with children who create makes but particularly girls involved in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Edmonton’s Women’s Initiative is proud to ensure that the unique perspective of women and girls are included in the conversations that share our city. EPL’s Makerspace is a completely public creative and collaborative environment where ideas are shared, expanded and brought to life.
