The men javelin of the Barcelona World Juniors was expected to be one of the most interesting throwing events of the championships with a possible world record and a duel between Braian TOLEDO from Argentina the World Youth record holder and the new star of the event , Keshorn WALCOTT from Trinidad who had a 82m + throw this season to lead the World junior ranking. But the competition was disappointing with both athletes been obviously too tensed and nervous .TOLEDO got the 1st lead with a modest 73,45m , then WALCOTT took over with 77,03m , then TOLEDO came back with 77,09m to lead by 6cm until the 6th round where WALCOTT got at least a better trajectory to get the winning throw with 78,64m . A good performance on the paper but nothing to get excited about technically . TOLEDO was obviously over excited and could not stop moving and jumping during all the competition . Curious behavior ! The best "Javelin" thrower in the field was for me the South African Morné MOOLMAN who had a PB 76,29m to get the bronze medal. Nevertheless it was a clear defeat for the usual "javelin" countries from Northern Europe with the confirmation of the emergence of South and Central American physically very talented javelin throwers. Out of that, the only country to get 2 throwers in the final top 8 was ...Australia !. The same phenomena can also be observed in the Shot put and Discus with new countries producing elite athletes and challenging the European usual domination of the throwing events. DP
