After the fall of Greece to the nazis, after resisting and defeating the Axis from October 28 1940, the whole of Greece fell under the triple axis occupation by June 1 1941. Thousands of Greeks vowed to continue the fight and joined the exiled Greek army in the Middle East and North Africa, fought in the second battle of El Alamein and across the Sahara and into Tunisia. The war was alsou brought to the occupied by the Nazis Aegean Sea and many Greeks with the Royal Hellenic airforce and navy took part in the invasion of Sicily and in Normandy. Returning by the end of the war to a liberated Greece in 1944
