Postcard From Texas
Spectacular views from the mountains of West Texas with the clouds below. Editor's note: I was at Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area just south of Alpine, Texas. At ground level we were completely socked in by cloud cover -- a cool, gray morning. We headed up the mountain for a 45 minute drive going into the clouds. We were going to the top in search of desert bighorn sheep. To our surprise, we broke through the tops of what was a low hanging layer of clouds. It was bright, sunny and warm, with other mountain peaks sticking up above the cloud layer. The clouds burned off quickly and we did find and photograph some desert bighorns. -- Bruce Biermann
