Very early televised performance. Pre-dates by several months Julie's contribution to the movie THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT (1956). This staged TV presentation is a noirish masterpiece of "black ice." Footage derives from THE ROSEMARY CLOONEY SHOW episode of May 29, 1956—Julie's first significant guest-starring television appearance. "Cry Me a River" (written and composed by Arthur Hamilton) was the smash-hit first track from her debut album JULIE IS HER NAME, released just six months previously.
In this video, the song performance is followed first by a brief dialogue between Julie and Rosemary Clooney and then by The Hi-Lo's quartet who "serenade" Julie as they admire her magnificent first-album cover portrait.
To hear the most stunning studio version of "Cry Me A River," please consult the 2010 Japanese-import CD release of JULIE IS HER NAME (1955).
