I believe that the real issue is the Zero Tolerance policies being enacted in our schools. The result is that while everyone is up in arms about increased gun control, our schools - where we must send our children every day - are turning into prisons. More and more, across the country, surveillance cameras are being installed in every hallway and classroom, so that there is no place where a child can be out of view - ever. Metal detectors are being installed at the entrances of the schools, which the students must walk through, every day, when they come in and when they leave. If a very young child, aged three or four, draws or scribbles a picture that may be construed as a bomb or a gun, he is dragged off to the police station in handcuffs, where he is questioned as to whether he wants to kill his classmates.
