The Landmark Practice recently participated in the RIBA competition to redevelop ‘Soar Island’ in Leicestershire. The competition gave us an excellent platform on which to showcase our skills and a chance to work collectively across disciplines, to create a design both spatially sophisticated and ecologically aware. In one great team effort, Landmark’s landscape team were busy crafting the design with Jamie and Neil creating some excellent montages and visuals and myself rendering the masterplan, all under the direction of our Principle Landscape Architect, Briony Seymour. On the ecology front, we received fantastic input from Pete and the ecology team, steering the design towards sensitive ecological enhancement. Meanwhile, our Graphic Technician, Sanchez, (with some help from his newbie assistant Jacob), was working away on the 3D SketchUp model. (Alas, this didn’t make it into our final competition entry due to limited mb capacity, so I promised I would put it into a blog instead!)
I hope you enjoy taking a walk through our design…
