When the Trio arrives at the surroundings of the castle where Ginny has been made prisoner they are seen by Snape witch in on guard that night.

He abandons his post and follows them. When he is told of what they are planning to do he's completely in rage. How can they risk everything they all have fought for like that? Do they imagine they have a change to get to Voldemort before getting caught? Ginny would die anyway, and so would the three of them.

If Harry has really set his heart on confronting Voldemort, then they will need help. And that is what he is going to arrange.

Snape leaves for the Headquarter of the Order and together they devise a plan: Snape is to tell the Dark Lord that he has intercepted a message to the Order, and that he knows where Harry is going to be the following night. The Dark Lord will, surely, leave the castle and take has many Death Eaters has he can, to witness his victory. Snape will find a way to stay behind and free Ginny. Then he will go to Malfoy's Manor and get the baby from Narcissa.

What Snape doesn't know is that Bellatrix has noticed his strange absences. So, when he returns to the castle and talks with Voldemort, she asks him if he is going to be the coward she has always suspected him to be, or will he be there next to Lord Voldemort.

Snape is forced to change his plan: he sends Dobby to the Trio, afraid that Bellatrix may follow him, and instructs the elf to free Ginny right before the battle.

Instigated by Bellatrix, Voldemort demands Snape's presence in the duel ahead.

Voldemort arrives, with his Death Eaters. Harry and the Dark Lord, finally, meet, face to face.

Dobby frees Ginny, and takes her to The Burrow. When they get there Ginny is scared by a huge black mark in the sky. Dobby tells her of the battle that took place nearby, but, he also explains her, that this mark has been on the sky only for a while. Voldemort is already celebrating Harry's death.

Ginny is devasted.
