A video of BENEATH, done as part of the GeoHack workshop for Fascinate 2014 made with a £2 video camera in a pickle jar.

We set out to make digital work that engaged with marine 'ecology', using kayaks and sea swimming. Technology (its power, its rare metals, its waste...) is part of that ecology, so we chose to hack redundant technology to make our apparatus for sensing BENEATH. The result is lo-fi, lo-cost and lo-impact.
We mapped just a few of the dimensions of this expanded ecology (biodiversity, economy, ownership of sea, changing coastline, creative and imaginative habitation of the sea...) and you can see and add to that map here:
