Marion City School District has developed a unique partnership with OhioHealth to create curriculum that provides students with the skills they need to fill in-demand jobs after they graduate. OhioHealth, the second-largest employer in the community, reported a shortage of State Tested Nursing Assistants and Medical Assistants. Over the course of the 2015-2016 school year, representatives from the school district and OhioHealth met consistently to advise and design curriculum.
Together with Marion Technical College, they created the medical assisting certificate. Medical assistants are the only allied health professionals specifically trained to work in ambulatory settings like physician offices, clinics and group practices. These multi-skilled personnel can perform administrative and clinical procedures. Physicians value this unique versatility more and more as managed care compels them to contain costs and manage human resources effectively. Medical assisting continues to be one of the fastest growing occupations in healthcare.
