Prior to mining, Mosaic's ecologists survey the site to identify any threatened or endangered species. When they identify a species, the team develops a plan to properly manage them prior to mining. The company has pioneered translocation programs for several Florida species including the gopher tortoise, Florida scrub jay and burrowing owl. Each year, the company translocates hundreds of threatened or endangered animals to appropriate maintained habitats away from mining activities. Watch a team of Mosaic's ecologists and wildlife consultants relocate a family of burrowing owls at a mine site in Central Florida.
