Melting steel wool! Today we demonstrated the simple combustive oxidation of iron by burning steel wool. The strands of steel wool are thin enough with enough surface area that heat produced is self-sustaining and will continue to burn through if there is enough air present. To make it a little more exciting we decided to add in some hair spray which looks like a torch when sprayed on top of fire.
