I came across these 2 cars while my family was visiting relatives in Northern California for Christmas 2010. They belong to my aunt and uncle's neighbor.

The red 1988 Toyota Tercel seen in the thumbnail photo had only 39,500 miles on the odometer at the time all of these pictures were taken! It is the typical "little old lady car", as it was purchased brand new in a small California town by an elderly woman. It was used as second vehicle by the woman and her husband in a very small town, so that is why it has such low miles. You will also notice that the Tercel is rust-free. This is because it spent almost its entire life further inland as opposed to Monterey, which is right on the ocean. The Tercel does have factory air-conditioning, which still uses R-12 refrigerant, but at present time it needs a recharge and is not blowing cold air. The compressor does engage when the air-conditioner is turned on, however, so this indicates it probably only needs a shot of Freon.

She also owns a 1991 Toyota Corolla DX wagon, of which she is the 2nd owner. She purchased it when it was "almost new" with very low miles, and currently uses it as a "pickup truck" (her own words) to pick up gardening supplies). The Tercel is in much better shape than the Corolla, but the Corolla still has low miles for being 20 years old. The Corolla's odometer reading at the time I did this video was less than 101,000, which is chump change for one of these older Toyotas. Since the Corolla spent most of its life in Monterey, it has a significant amount of rust. The car is also a little dirty and beat up due to its use as a "pickup truck", but other than that everything works and it is in good running condition. The original R-12 air-conditioning system still works perfectly!
