My husband helped me make this video for a presentation for a class in nursing school. He performed the preeclampsia song I wrote to Tom Petty's "Free Falling". He knows nothing about anything even remotely medical so it was pretty amazing of him to sing the song for me! :-)

Preeclampsia, it's increased blood pressure
And, don't forget renal involvement, too
140 over 90 at 20 weeks
Edema in the hands and face, too

If you've got nausea and vomiting,
Dizziness, upper abdominal pain,
Changes in vision, and severe headaches
You need to go to the emergency room

You're pre, pre eclamptic

A nurse needs to assess deep tendon reflexes
And clonus indicates CNS irritability
Seizure prophylaxis with magnesium sulfate
Calcium gluconate if respiratory rate is down

You're pre, pre eclamptic

If you have a grand mal seizure
Then you've got eclampsia
Which could turn into HELLP syndrome
And, before you know it, it's DIC

Now you're e, eclamptic

The only cure is delivery
