The Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR), within the University of Hawaii at Manoa School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), was established to pursue the common research interests of NOAA and the UH in oceanic, atmospheric, and geophysical research. Major areas of research in JIMAR include ecosystem forecasting, ecosystem monitoring, ecosystem-based management, protection and restoration of resources, equatorial oceanography, climate research and impacts, tropical meteorology, and tsunami and other long-period ocean waves.
