This is a time-lapse journey in an anticlockwise direction around the complete 13.9 Miles of Derby Outer Ring Road in 25 minutes. A pretty much perfect run in one shot with no editing, very little traffic at 6am.
Before I made this video I had not actually thought about the route of the outer ring road before. When you start tracing it out you find its not that easy to follow it as its not called the outer ring road on any maps. I think I have followed the outer ring road correctly but its difficult to say for sure.

Are you an ex-pat of Derby, feeling homesick? Or perhaps you just want a clear way of giving someone directions to a location in Derby or just want to show people your Derby Street. Well in this video and the many others I have made, you will be able to take a virtual drive around the city of Derby's streets as though you were in the driving seat. I use a dash-mounted camera.
*** This video is not real-time, it is time-lapse ***
The real driving time is 25 minutes and the distance is 13.9 Miles. During my drive I made just one mistake and that was not turning left at the Little Eaton Island, this meant having to go around the roundabout to get back onto the A38.
25 minutes is the fastest you can do this journey if you keep to the speed limits.
This was filmed at 6 in the morning which is why the roads are so empty, if you were to attempt this jourey at say 9am then it would probably take a couple of hours.
Points of interest along the route:
0:00 Journey starts on the A5111 Kenilworth Avenue leaving the Stenson Road roundaboout
0:12 The Oast House pub ahead at the top of Sinfin Lane
0:15 Over the lights at the old Barracks onto Osmaston Park Road
0:30 Turn right here if you want Sainsbury's or the large B&Q
1:08 Spider Bridge
1:51 Blue Peter pub on the left
2:13 Tun right here to use the new Alvaston Bypass to get to the A50.
2:24 Going over the River Derwent
2:43 I don't like this bit of Raynesway as you have just a few seconds to get the right lane. We want the A52 Derby.
5:11 Made a Mistake, in wrong lane here, should have turned left! So have to go right around island. Wasted 20 seconds
5:21 Back on route again A38 Abbey Hill
6:42 Markeaton Island. Turn left for inner ring road right for Ashborne (A52)
7:06 Kingsway Island A38. Go on for A38 to Burton on Trent.
7:14 Turn left here if you want Sainsbury's, Homebase, Next, Currys, Comet, M&S Food, Halfords, Harveys, Boots, Kings Highway pub, Travelodge hotel etc. The B&Q that used to be here is now at the turn off at 0:30
7:25 Kingsway Fire Station on the right.
7:35 The road going across here is Uttoxeter New Road, The new Derby Royal hospital is right at this junction.
7:40 Manor Road (A5111)
8:02 Turn left here for the City Centre or right for Littleover.
8:05 The road going across here is Burton Road
