Typical PCR protocols take 1.5--2 hr to complete. This slideshow describes how to dramatically shorten PCR runs in your current thermocycler by using Bio-Rad enzymes and supermixes that are optimized for fast reaction times.

The pros and cons of various modifications in the design of fast PCR protocols are discussed in relation to the time saved and the quality of the results. An extension of the technique to real-time PCR is introduced along with a troubleshooting guide.
