In 2009, the Georgia Bulldogs made their 1st appearance at the Women's College World Series held in Oklahoma City, OK.

The Bulldogs lost their opening round game against Washington 3-1 in the double elimination format. Georgia then rallied back and defeated Missouri (5-2) and Michigan (7-5) to set up a rematch against Washington where the Bulldogs would have to beat the Huskies twice in order to advance to the championship series.

The back and forth battle lasted 4 hours and 15 minutes before the Bulldogs prevailed when Brianna Hesson drew a bases-loaded walk to score the game winning run. The final score was 9-8 in favor of the Red and Black.

With the winner advancing to the championship round of the WCWS, Georgia and Washington battled one more time. The eventual national championship Huskies prevailed in the final bout, 9-3.

The Georgia Bulldogs finished the year with a 47-12 record and ranked #3 in the country.
