I think it's also the fact that we've become very lazy, something like that, I can't be bothered to explain.
At least you won't have politicians using the slogan "Make Britain Great Again", since it would sound silly.

The "great" doesn't mean greater than Britanny, it means greater than Ireland. Out of the two largest islands that make up the British Isles there are "Britannia Major" and "Britannia Minor", or "Great Britain" and "Lesser Britain" respectively. They were called this by the Romans (and sort of by the Greeks) long before Britanny was a thing. Britanny is called Britanny (or Little Britain) because the Britons fled there from the Romans/Angles/Saxons/Vikings.

In (very late) reply to Eleanor J:  OMG Great Britain does NOT include Northern Ireland.  Great Britain is, put simply, England, Wales and for the moment Scotland.  Adding Northern Ireland into the mix gives you the United Kingdom.   Also, please note that ISLAND means a body of land surrounded by water whereas IRELAND means Eire AKA Southern Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. And, speaking as an American, he's right about America. To any who were offended by what he said, or by this, you're part of the problem.
Mitchell for king!!
