The President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, was received in audience by Pope Benedict XVI. The talks, held in a cordial atmosphere, allowed a useful exchange of views on relations between the Catholic Church, the European Parliament and other European institutions, as well as on the contribution that the Church can offer to the European Union. During the meeting, the two also focused on topical issues such as commitment to the promotion of religious freedom and the protection of Christian minorities in the world.
