People often ask me about Airplay 2, what it is and why I support it. These are two questions I hope to answer with this video. Airplay 2 is an upcoming conference for gamers to discuss how to improve the gaming industry, including many of the topics brought up by the GamerGate consumer revolt. Unlike the first Airplay conference, which focused primarily on journalistic ethics, Airplay 2 will consist of several panels on a number of industry topics.

Like the originally Airplay, Airplay 2 will be partially funded by the Society of Professional Journalists and many SPJ members will be in attendance, though the SPJ will not be officially managing the event. As previously mentioned, the SPJ is only partially funding Airplay 2, which is where we come in. In order to make Airplay 2 a reality, we need to raise five thousand dollars. As of this recording we have raised nearly a fourth of this goal.

Now why do I support Airplay 2? Firstly I think that events like this are absolutely important in reparing the gaming industry. At it's core, GamerGate is a conversation by gamers and game developers on how we can fix the industry and conferences like these are a great way to keep the conversation going and to have a serious dialogue about these issues. Secondly, it's important that we as gamers actually do something. Too often people spend all day shitposting on Twitter, reddit or 8chan, but they never actually do any real work. Rather than just posting silly memes all day, people should be out there creating content, researching and organizing events like this to get both GamerGate and the gaming industry back on track.

Thirdly, I have faith in some of the panelists and think that they are the right people to have a nuanced conversation about these important topics. If you want to support Airplay 2, links to more information and the GoFundMe page are in the description.
