Chee Jian Kai vs Ole Laursen
Malaysia Denmark / Philippines
1-0-0 4-2-0

Winner: Laursen via ground and pound after 2:18

Malaysia has never been renowned for its MMA fighters but there are growing signs that this might gradually change. Chee is the latest to emerge from the burgeoning MMA scene in Malaysia but he was facing a real baptism of fire against the crowd favourite Ole Laursen.

Laursen is one of the top fighters in the region and was looking to put on show for the Singapore fans after a slightly lackluster performance in his last fight. Born in the Philippines but raised in Denmark, he is a world class Muay Thai fighter with a rapidly evolving ground game.

Chee is a veteran of over 30 Muay Thai fights but was a major underdog against Laursen who has won his last four MMA fights and has not been beaten since 2006. Laursen stalked his opponent but gets rocked by a flush left hook and Chee swarmed all over him looking for an early finish. Laursen regained his composure and worked for a submission. He moved into mount and trapping Chee's arm, began to pepper him with punches. The Malaysian clearly did not intelligently defend himself and the referee had no option but to step in and stop the fight.
