That same night after dinner
NICK: I don't think I've ever eaten as much in my entire life.
[Nick plopped down on Kevin's bed while Kevin grabbed a guitar]
KEVIN: I know. I've never seen a table so full of food.
NICK: I can't believe we finished it. There was so much pasta and mashed potatoes and steak and...
KEVIN: There were mashed potatoes? How come I didn't see it?
NICK: Probably because it was near Joe.
KEVIN: Figures. Where is he?
NICK: In his room talking to Sheryll. Where were you before dinner? You've been gone all day.
KEVIN: I went to buy guitar picks.
NICK: Cool, we need more. Where are they?
KEVIN: I-I got sidetracked looking at guitars so I forgot to grab some.
NICK: So you were in that store all day?
NICK: And you didn't buy anything?
NICK: Kevin, what were you really doing?
KEVIN: I told you, I was looking at guitars.
NICK: You're a really bad liar.
KEVIN: [Sighing] Ok fine. But you can't tell Joe.
NICK: It's that bad?
KEVIN: I was with Gabby and we were talking...
NICK: Gabby! The girl that sold Joe out? Don't even go there.
KEVIN: I wasn't planning on it.
NICK: Of all the girls on this planet.
KEVIN: I just bought her some yogurt, ok, it's not like I asked her to marry me.
NICK: Ok, but Joe would go crazy if he found out.
KEVIN: It's not always about Joe.
NICK: I won't tell him, but I don't think you should see her again.
[Nick left Kevin strumming on the guitar, and walked in on Joe's conversation with Sheryll. Joe didn't even notice Nick walk in]
JOE: [Laughing] I'm going to get you a ring as soon as I can so that Ryan guy will stop... I know, but I want to... When can we tell your parents? Pretty please with strawberries on top... Ok, I love you. See you soon.
NICK: So what was that all about?
[Joe practically jumped out of his seat]
JOE: How'd you get in?
NICK: The door.
JOE: Oh, I didn't hear it.
NICK: What ring were you two talking about?
JOE: Uh... Sheryll wants a purity ring and she wants me to get it for her.
NICK: Can't she get one herself?
JOE: Yeah but... she doesn't know where to get one.
NICK: Why do need to tell her parents about it?
JOE: I... w-want to make sure it's ok with them.
NICK: Why wouldn't it be ok?
JOE: I don't know!
NICK: What is the ring really for?
JOE: Ugh. I can't tell you.
NICK: Well it's not like you and Sheryll are going to get married or anything... right?
[Joe kept his eyes away from his brother's as Nick read the guilty look on his face]
NICK: You... Sheryll...engaged?
JOE: Not technically. I haven't gotten her a ring yet.
NICK: And you think you can hide this from Mom and Dad?
JOE: Only for a while.
JOE: You can't tell anyone. No one is supposed to know yet.
NICK: When did you ask her?
JOE: When we were at the beach.
NICK: Joe, are you sure about this?
JOE: [Smiling] Yes, very sure.
NICK: I mean are you really really sure?
JOE: I am. Sheryll's the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with.
NICK: Ok I get that, but is now the best time for that? We've got a tour that's going to start in less than a month.
JOE: I know. That's why I want to get her a ring before we go. So all the guys see she's taken.
NICK: And what's the press going to say about it?
JOE: We can't let them run our lives, and Sheryll and I aren't doing anything against the law.
NICK: I won't tell, but you've got to tell Mom and Dad, soon.
JOE: I will. Or should I say I do?
[Joe was the only one laughing as Nick walked down to the kitchen he thought to himself]
NICK: Why does everyone have secrets? And why do I have to know about them?
FRANKIE: Nick! Help me!
[Frankie grabbed Nick's hand as he pulled him into the living room]
NICK: What'd you do now?
FRANKIE: I spilled grape juice on Mom's new carpet.
NICK: Is that the one she had imported from Greece?
NICK: Go get some paper towels!
FRANKIE: I already tried that!
NICK: Get the carpet cleaning spray
MOM: Boys! We're back from grocery shopping!
DAD: Help us bring in the bags.
NICK: We'll be right there.
FRANKIE: [Panicking] What do we do now?
NICK: Uh, hurry let's move the couch over the stain.
[Nick and Frankie were able to move the couch just as their Dad came in]
DAD: Why did you boys move that?
NICK: So that... it brightens the look of the room.
DAD: If you boys say so. Where are Joe and Kevin?
JOE KEVIN: Right here.
NICK: Well... we have to go help Mom with the bags. Bye.
[Nick and Frankie ran out of the room]
KEVIN: What was that all about?
JOE: Who knows?
DAD: What have you two been up to?
JOE: Just... cleaning our rooms.
DAD: Really? That's great. Have the girls been over?
KEVIN: Girls? What girls?
DAD: Sheryll, Sarah and what about Gabby?
JOE: Gabby won't be coming around here anymore.
DAD: How's Sheryll doing?
JOE: She's marry—I mean very... happy.
KEVIN: [Smiling] We'll go help Mom now.
