From the 11th of August, the four artists began working on their latest residency at Departure, Limehouse. Once the site of a Danish seamen's mission, it is now a meeting point for the local community and a stopping-off point for travellers in the know, who use its library, cafe, exhibition and studio space.
Beginning by bringing adapted found objects, frankly not enough tools, plenty of timber, models boats, a maquette of water wheels, guitars, pipes and guttering, a homemade digital projector and a golden toolbox, they then spent most of their time learning to play songs by the Small Faces, and slowly modifying these objects, taking some outside the space to a local lock, but generally meandering towards the 1st, the date of a closing event where their efforts will be displayed.
The video documents the methodology and resistance which carried on up unto the event itself, including a budgie and goldfish being left in the studio.
