Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Food and Nutrition Security, David Nabarro.

In 2000, the international community pledged to halve the number of people suffering from hunger by 2015. With 925 million hungry people today, and the effects of the 2008 food and financial crisis still prevailing, the future of food and nutrition security is more precarious than ever.

David Nabarro trained as doctor, worked in child health and nutrition in Iraq, South Asia and East Africa, taught at the London and Liverpool Schools of Tropical Medicine, and served as Chief Health and Population Adviser and Director for Human Development in the UK Department for International Development (DFID). At the World Health Organization (WHO) he led Roll Back Malaria before moving to the Department for Health Action in Crises. In 2005 he joined the UN as the Secretary General's Senior Coordinator for Avian and Pandemic Influenza. In 2009 he was also asked to coordinate the UN System's High Level Task Force on the Global Food Security Crisis.
