i decided to experiment and see if a 1080 IPS screen would work in a Lenovo T440 ultrabook. Lenovo does NOT state or list that ANY 1080 IPS screens are compatible with the T440, however they do have one spec'ed for the T440s.
After doing some research, I found that there were two screen manufacturers which made the 1080 IPS screen for the T440s (LG and AUOptronics). I read a number of reviews stating that the LG screen had light 'bleeding', so i decided to go with the AUO. This AUO was sourced on eBay, brand new, for $99 shipped. After carefully removing the LCD bezel Sticker with a razor, i then removed the four corner screws holding on the LCD bezel and screen. The 1080 IPS screen was a perfect fit, and instantly turned on.
I sourced the T440 on eBay for $450 (6 months used) + $99 for the 1080 IPS screen, brings the total for this system to $550.. Best laptop i've ever owned.
