Tom Consi's passion for robotics started in MIT's Ocean Engineering Department, but he's reaching new depths at UWM's School of Freshwater Sciences.

Students in Consi's lab are developing a heavy-duty, 300-pound amphibious robot to give scientists access to what can be a very inhospitable place - the churning, frigid waves of Lake Michigan.

The assistant professor also helped develop the Wisconsin ROV Competition at UWM for high school teams. This year's champion went on to win the international title, beating out a team from Russia and solidifying Milwaukee's position as a pipeline for future engineers.

For this guy, forget the sky as a limit. Bring on the bottom of the ocean!
