Form of the Song
"Back to December" is the apologetic love song single from Taylor Swift's 2010 hit release, Speak Now. The song opened in the Billboards listings when the album debuted, and then it reemerged again when the song was released as a single. Swift wrote and co-produced the track, along with most of the record.
The Speak Now Tour sold out almost every show, earning more than $40 million in only her second American tour. The sets and planning behind the tour were designed to be very elaborate, creating a whole memorable experience for the concert attendees.
This particular track contains but a handful of guitar chords, all of which are fundamental and use easy hand transitions from one to the next. The song follows a simple structure, letting all the notes play out with its simplistic strumming pattern. Notice the anticipatory strumming, hitting the chord slightly sooner than planned, in the song.
"Back to December" features the following song form:
* Intro
* Verse 1
* Pre-chorus
* Chorus ("So this is me swallowing...")
* Interlude (played twice)
* Verse 2
* Chorus ("So this is me swallowing...")
* Guitar solo
* Bridge ("I miss your...")
* Chorus ("So this is me swallowing...")

* Outro
