A reimagining of the video game character Ecco the Dolphin.
This was a request way back when and I also wanted to see if I could make it at all.
I still swear by the fact that most things, given care and consideration, can be epic...no matter what they happen to be.
The story I came up with is a reimagining which draws from the Ecco games. In this version Ecco is a super intelligent biological prototype developed by mankind to see if the hidden potential of dolphins can be actualized. Shortly after his birth the planet comes under attack by an armada of aliens known only as The Foe which use advanced weaponry to trigger tsunamis and swamp out much of the world, leaving the survivors of humanity to live beneath the sea. Now Ecco is a defender and humankind comes to rely on his help in their continuing battle with The Foe beneath the waves.
Ideally I'd want Ecco never to speak and behave very much like a dolphin. He's more intelligent and has specialized abilities (weaponized sonar for instance) but he is still an animal. The story would be told partially from Ecco's perspective as he fought aquatic alien menaces and partially from the humans living in their embattled underwater bases.
The music used is a mix between Ecco's Medusa Bay theme and the song Love and Loss by Two Steps from Hell.
Ecco has had several games but only a few follow the same continuity. For instance Ecco 1 and 2 are in the same storyline, but Ecco Defender of the Future (which this trailer is partially based on) has an entirely new story.
So, because of that, I decided to make my own addition of the character's mythos.
