With 29 annotations, this WBT study video of Robyn Hays' Oklahoma second graders demonstrates the power of Whole Brain Teaching's Five Step Lesson. Step 1: Robyn begins with a question, "What is a pronoun?" Step 2: The answer "a pronoun takes the place of a noun" is supplied with a memory gesture. In Step 3, the answer is expanded with examples and concludes with critical thinking tasks in which students insert pronouns in sentence frames. Step 4 provides a rapid assessment of student understanding. In Step 5 Robyn's class summarizes the lesson in writing, answering the question they have just explored, "What is a pronoun?"
