An early nuclear fusion research facility at Los Alamos National Laboratory has been demolished as part of environmental cleanup funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Scientists at the Tritium Systems Test Assembly were among the early pioneers of fusion technology, which forces atoms together to create energy rather than split them apart. The scientists' work lives on in current fusion research in Europe, Japan, and the United States.
