The new CUNY Institute of Education Policy (CIEP) at Roosevelt House is hosting a series of breakfast conversations on education with New York City mayoral candidates. The next of these forums will be held at 8:00am on August 6, when David Steiner, CIEP Director and Hunter College Dean of Education, talks to candidate Anthony Weiner about the future of the City's public education system.

Anthony Weiner, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the New York City Council, is running in a crowded field of contenders headed for the Democratic primary on September 10. The son of a high-school math teacher, he attended public schools in New York City, including PS 39 in Brooklyn and Brooklyn Technical High School.

David Steiner, a former commissioner of education for New York State, who has been credited with leading Hunter College's teacher education programs to be among the strongest in the nation (see here ), will lead the discussion. As New York State Commissioner, Dr. Steiner helped win a $700 million federal Race to the Top grant for New York and pioneered improved standards to make the state's students college- and career-ready.
